The great Dutch painter, Vermeer, was known for his sumptuous realism. Of Vermeer’s style, it was said that "a perfect painting is like a mirror of Nature, in which things that are not there appear to be there, and which deceives in an acceptable, amusing, and praiseworthy fashion. Such is the work of Vermeer." We feel that J. Ashelon has achieved this level of art, bringing him into the league of the great masters of antiquity.
We also believe that Ashelon’s series, Ballerina, featuring the gorgeous model, Inna, achieves a status of art that was ascribed to one of Vermeer’s most famous pieces, Girl with a Pearl Earring:
“A similar sense of immediacy is found in Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, in which he established an engaging rapport between the girl and her viewer. With liquid eyes and parted mouth she looks directly at the viewer, radiating purity and captivating all who gaze upon her. In short, Ashelon is achieving something timelessly artistic in his amazing series, Ballerina. And of course, he could not achieve this artistry without his model, Inna. For anyone who has been a member of Met Art for the last year, Inna has been a constant presence. In fact, many of us have watched her grow up from a girl into a woman, and she keeps on getting more beautiful. In this series, she is better than she’s ever been. A true ballerina!
