On Location. Jan Kruml with Zuzana. DAY ONE Meeting Zuzana
My meeting with Zuzana was quite unexpected. I received a phone call from a friend of mine about an acquaintance of hers interested in modeling for me. My friend said the new girl, Zuzana, was enthusiastic about becoming a model and that she would like my assistance in obtaining photographs for a modeling portfolio. I was already busy with work out of town so I was reluctant to make arrangements to meet with Zuzana. But once I spoke with this charming young woman on the telephone I changed my plans. Zuzana’s excitement about modeling somehow swayed me.
I told Zuzana that I would pick her up on my way back to Prague. Zuzana lives in a small town and is still in high school. Despite her obvious natural beauty, the aspiring model was shy when we first met but it didn’t take long for us to develop a comfortable rapport. Zuzana’s wit and sharp intelligence became apparent as we talked on our drive.
We drove to a local airport to shoot the Zuzana pilot series. Once the dark-haired teen began removing her clothing, her reserve vanished all together. She posed freely without any objections about not wanting to do this or do that. She was amazingly easy to work with. Her confidence level seemed to expand as the shoot progressed. When she saw the results of our work on the laptop Zuzana commented that she trusted my skills completely and that she felt safe with my team. The gallery featured at Met Art resulting from this shoot clearly reflects how much she enjoyed herself during the session.
I knew after our day together that if Zuzana could stay a bit longer we could create some more amazing work. I asked the model if it would be possible for her to stay with me in order to produce more photographs. I was pleasantly surprised when, after calling home, she told me she would be able to stay for three more days. We drove to my cottage near Prague where we enjoyed a nice dinner. We retired to bed early so we could catch the beautiful early morning light of the day ahead of us.
