While a lot of photographers are always appearing for the first time on Met Art – they are, after all, the premier gallery for online nude art – there is an occasional newcomer who deserves something more than just a spot on the site. With his genius and inspiration, such a newcomer deserves a more refined and analytical welcome, an attempt by the team to "interpret" his work and figure out how it can better be appreciated by our members. Such a newcomer is Ukrainian photographer, Vitali Gubin.
Mr Gubin is well known for his work in fashion and advertising photography. His shots have graced the inside pages and covers of many of the country’s top magazines. His ability to capture the intimate personality of his model, while also flattering her with his lens to make her better than she’s ever been, is his trademark talent.
And if one peruses the nude shots seen here, one sees a bit of this more commercial talent of Mr. Gubin’s dripping over into his nude erotic work. All the images here are crisp and clean. They seem to shimmer with artistic vibrancy. The lighting is exquisitely mastered so as to accentuate each curve and dynamic of the model’s surface. Yet the depths of the subject are aroused as well, giving a textural fleshiness to the composition that makes these images as inviting as they are stimulating.
A photographer can largely be summarised in terms of the models he chooses, and in this case we can see that Mr. Gubin has chosen very, very well. She is a tall, exotic, perfectly built young woman, with a seizing charm and alluring looks. She can be found in among the Models No Name section. There’s something richly mysterious about her, dark and slightly menacing. This is a powerful girl, given to overwhelming her lover with displays of sensual activity. Mr.Gubin has been able to pay homage to her power while also bringing out her innocence and playfulness. It’s his ability to delve into the paradoxes of beautiful women that makes Mr.Gubin, and his photo series, so formidable and appealing.
