Richard Murrian In Normandy: ‘Deux Soers In Normandie’ with Monika C and Eliska A.
Our alarm goes off at 4:30AM and after a brief moment where I consider smashing it to bits, I drag my ass out of bed and begin the difficult process of waking Nancy – this woman could sleep through a nuclear war.
After she grudgingly awakens, she looks toward the window with a troubled look, looks back at me and says, "Do I hear rain?" YES. It’s raining. I can’t believe it. We get our things together, head to the lobby, and find the girls waiting for us. "Il pleut," Eliska greets me with.
I should mention this as it’s somewhat comical. Monika and Eliska are sisters, and they are Czech. Monika speaks English as a second language. Eliska speaks French. I still can not speak very much Czech, so, when working with the two of them, I’m constantly going back and forth between English and French to speak to them. It’s gets confusing: "Monika, turn to the left please, et Eliska, tourner à la droite." In the end, they always seem to understand.
I tell Eliska I know it’s raining, but trust me, I just know it’s going to clear up by the time we’re at the beach and ready to shoot. Luckily, I’m right, and it’s cleared up by the time we arrive. We conduct the shoot (see the video), which takes a few hours, and then we all go back to town and take naps.
We we awake a few hours later, we head out for lunch, do some shopping & sightseeing, and then eventually get on a train back to Paris. We’re arrive in Paris at about 8PM, but considering how early we all got up, we drop the girls off at their hotel, and everyone goes to bed early.
